Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health Announce New Behavioral Health Hospital in Westfield

INDIANAPOLIS (April 16, 2025) — Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, announced the intended location for one of their new behavioral health hospitals as part of their joint venture partnership. Announced earlier this year, the partnership was created for the purpose of expanding access to specialty behavioral healthcare in central Indiana.

The new 120-bed, single-story hospital will be located in Westfield, across the street from the new Community healthcare campus.

The new hospital is one of two facilities planned for the greater Indianapolis area as part of the joint venture between Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health, announced in February. The partnership aims to address the region’s increasing need for behavioral healthcare services by expanding both inpatient and outpatient care options.

“We know behavioral health services are important to the residents of Westfield and Hamilton County. As the leading provider of behavioral health services in Indiana, Community is proud to expand access to care through innovative partnerships that address the growing needs of our communities,” said Jason Fahrlander, Community Health Network Chief Operating Officer.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the earliest anticipated opening in 2027. Once complete, Lifepoint Behavioral Health will manage day-to-day operations, integrating the hospital seamlessly into the existing Community Fairbanks Behavioral Health continuum of care.

“Expanding access to patient-centered specialty care is the foundation of our work with Community Health Network,” said Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Behavioral Health. “Through our long-standing partnership, we continue to find new ways to bring vitally needed services to patients throughout Indiana, and we know this new hospital in Westfield will meaningfully extend and strengthen behavioral health services for those we serve in Marion and Hamilton counties.”

The announcement comes as the need for behavioral healthcare continues to grow in the region. A recent Community Mental Health Needs Assessment for Marion County, conducted by the Center for Health Policy at Indiana University, found that two-thirds of county residents who needed treatment for a serious mental illness did not receive it. The planned hospitals will increase the total number of behavioral health beds in the Network, providing more dedicated treatment spaces for individuals with complex needs.
