Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health Break Ground on New Inpatient Behavioral Health Hospital in Central Indiana

Community Health Network and Lifepoint Behavioral Health, an operating division of Lifepoint Health, celebrated a major milestone today as they officially broke ground on Community Fairbanks Behavioral Health Hospital South.

The future behavioral health hospital will be a 120-bed, free-standing facility designed to provide comprehensive treatment for complex mental health conditions. As the first of two planned hospitals developed through this joint venture in the greater Indianapolis area, the campus represents a major step forward in strengthening the region's healthcare continuum.

"As Indiana's largest provider of behavioral health services, Community Health Network understands the critical need for accessible, high-quality mental health care," said Jason Fahrlander, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of Community Health Network. "This new hospital reflects the strength of our partnership with Lifepoint Behavioral Health and our shared commitment to expanding access to compassionate, specialized care for patients and families across central Indiana."

The facility will directly address a critical shortage of behavioral health services throughout central Indiana. It will also bridge a growing gap in care and ensure patients can access vital support in their own community by significantly increasing the network's capacity and prioritizing dedicated treatment spaces.

“We know that the compassionate, specialty care that will be delivered within this facility will be a testament to our shared vision and values-driven approach to patient care,” said Nicki Tessler, president of Lifepoint Behavioral Health. “As we celebrate this important milestone, we want to thank everyone who has come together to make this hospital a place for hope, healing and recovery for the Indianapolis community.”

The facility's treatment models will address the unique needs of various patient populations using evidence-based therapies focused on improving and sustaining mental health. Upon completion, Lifepoint Behavioral Health will manage day-to-day operations for the free-standing hospital.

The hospital will join Lifepoint Behavioral Health’s growing national network of 24 behavioral health facilities. It will be located at 8708 Shelby Street in Indianapolis, IN.
