Dignity Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation Announce Plans for New Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in West Phoenix
Dignity Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, today announced plans to jointly develop a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Glendale to expand access to specialized rehabilitation services for patients throughout the growing region.
Pending customary regulatory approvals, the partners plan to build a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the campus of Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center. The new facility is projected to open in the second half of 2028 and will provide comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation care for patients recovering from conditions such as stroke, neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, trauma, amputation and other debilitating illnesses or injuries.
“As the West Valley continues to see rapid growth, it is essential that we expand our clinical footprint to meet the evolving needs of our community,” said Anthony Houston, president of Dignity Health Arizona. “By partnering with Lifepoint Rehabilitation to bring this new, specialized facility to our Westgate campus, we are ensuring that our patients have access to comprehensive care, close to home, that supports them through their health journey. This new inpatient rehabilitation hospital is a vital addition that reflects our deep commitment to improving the health and well-being of the Arizonans we serve.”
The new rehabilitation hospital will address a growing need for inpatient rehabilitation services in the West Valley and provide patients with access to a dedicated care environment designed specifically to support recovery and rehabilitation. The freestanding facility will feature private patient rooms, advanced rehabilitation technologies and multidisciplinary care teams focused on helping patients achieve the highest possible level of function and independence.
This marks the third rehabilitation partnership between Dignity Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation in the Greater Phoenix area, building on the success of their existing inpatient rehabilitation hospitals serving the Chandler and Gilbert communities.
"We are proud to continue expanding our relationship with Dignity Health, increasing access to rehabilitation services across the Greater Phoenix region," said Russ Bailey, president of Lifepoint Rehabilitation. "Together, we share a commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centered care. This new hospital will help meet the growing demand for specialized rehabilitation services in West Phoenix and provide patients with the resources, expertise and support they need to recover and be able to live their lives fully."
The facility represents another step in both organizations' efforts to strengthen the continuum of care available to Arizona patients and families while supporting the healthcare needs of one of the nation's fastest-growing regions.
