(Brentwood, Tenn. – September 26, 2016) – LifePoint Health® (NASDAQ: LPNT), a leading healthcare company dedicated to Making Communities Healthier®, has expanded its leadership team, promoting six employees to vice president posts and hiring one additional vice president:
- Merita Burney has been promoted to vice president, nursing and clinical operations;
- Cindy Chamness has been promoted to vice president, quality operations;
- Eric Enos has been hired as vice president, technology services;
- Chris Harrison has been promoted to vice president, controller, hospital operations;
- Mitzi Kent has been promoted to vice president, strategic resource group and physician relations and industry;
- Vinitia Mathews has been promoted to vice president, patient experience; and
- Denise Waters has been promoted to vice president, revenue cycle operations.

Merita Burney, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, vice president, nursing and clinical operations, is responsible for providing guidance and support, as well as assisting with the education and training of hospital chief nursing officers (CNOs) and other clinical leaders across LifePoint’s Eastern Group of facilities. She previously served as Senior Director, Clinical Integration, Eastern Group and has been with the company for three years. Burney has been instrumental in establishing clinical benchmarks and staffing guidelines for eight recently acquired hospitals in the Eastern Group to help them effectively measure their clinical staffing performance and support continuous improvement efforts.
In her role as vice president, quality operations, Cindy Chamness provides guidance and support for quality and patient safety initiatives to help improve clinical processes and achieve positive patient outcomes. She previously served as Senior Director, Quality and has been with LifePoint for 11 years. During her time with the company, she has served as project director for LifePoint’s involvement with the Hospital Engagement Network, a National Quality Program Leadership Team member, and project director for the LifePoint Patient Safety Organization.
New to the LifePoint team, Eric Enos, vice president, technology services, is responsible for the enterprise strategy and operations of LifePoint’s infrastructure services – including hardware, software, telecommunications systems and data center operations – that support each of LifePoint’s markets. For the past decade, Eric served as senior partner and chief operating officer of Ingenuity Associates, a Nashville-based consulting firm focused on large-scale IT infrastructure and security programs, where he led numerous strategic and tactical IT initiatives that supported several large healthcare provider organizations, including LifePoint Health.
Chris Harrison, vice president, controller, hospital operations, directs analysis and reporting on the financial operations of the company’s lines of business – specifically related to hospital operations. He previously served the company as a senior director and has been with LifePoint for three years. During his time at LifePoint, Harrison has been responsible for the successful integration of 20 hospital acquisitions into the LifePoint financial systems and standards, and he has helped enhance the daily, monthly and quarterly analysis and reporting of hospital operations.
In her role as vice president, strategic resource group and physician relations and industry, Mitzi Kent is responsible for spearheading growth initiatives and strategic planning across LifePoint’s 72 hospitals, as well as overseeing the development and execution of strategies to cultivate relationships with physicians and employers in all of the company’s markets. She previously served as Senior Director of Physician Relations and Industry (PRI) and has been with LifePoint for three years. During her time with the company, she has helped structure LifePoint’s PRI program to include a customer relationship management (CRM) system for all documentation around physician visits and needs; increased physician engagement by developing a formalized issue resolution process; and enhanced sales training for PRI representatives at all LifePoint facilities.
Vinitia Mathews, vice president, patient experience, is responsible for developing and executing effective tools and strategies that are designed to help strengthen patient satisfaction and engagement at both the hospital and enterprise levels. Mathews previously served as director, patient experience, and has been with LifePoint for three years. Since joining LifePoint, Mathews has led the company to achieve an impressive 150 percent net increase in its Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) ranking, and make significant strides with patient and family engagement – most notably through the creation of the LifePoint Patient and Family Advisory Board.
As vice president, revenue cycle operations, Denise Waters is responsible for the development, implementation and management of revenue cycle services for LifePoint Health. She helps ensure that all revenue cycle initiatives align with the organization’s strategic priorities, while focusing on improving customer service and the overall patient experience. Waters previously served as Senior Director, Patient Financial Services and has been with LifePoint for 3 years. During her time with the company, Waters has developed and implemented health insurance marketplace strategies; established financial clearance in patient access at all hospitals; and was instrumental in the creation of a shared business services office, which currently provides billing and collections services for several hospitals and healthcare providers that are part of the LifePoint Health and Duke LifePoint Healthcare systems.
