LEWISTON, IDAHO – St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (St. Joe’s) announced today that Ed Freysinger, MHSA, has been named chief executive officer (CEO), effective November 3, 2021. Freysinger replaces Jerry Dooley, who has served as interim CEO since June.

“We are pleased to welcome Ed to his new role as CEO and to St. Joe’s community,” said Sandra Podley, Western Division President of LifePoint Health. “Ed brings years of healthcare leadership experience to St. Joe’s along with a commitment to quality care and a dedication to his team and his community. We know that he will be a positive leader for St. Joe’s and great partner to this region.”

An experienced healthcare leader, Freysinger comes to St. Joe’s from UP Health System – Portage, a LifePoint facility in Hancock, Mich., where he has served as CEO. Prior to his position at UP Health System – Portage, Freysinger served as CEO at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center in Ketchikan, Alaska and as CEO at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital in Hood River, Oregon.

"Ed's experience demonstrates his ability to lead hospital teams effectively, while remaining focused on quality and growth," said Ella-Mae Keatts, chair of the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. "He has a strong history of successful engagement with board members, providers and employees. We welcome his leadership and look forward to continuing to build on St. Joe's commitment to our healthcare teams and the communities we serve."

Freysinger holds a Master of Health Services Administration (HMSA) from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. He has served on the Executive Committee for the Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association, the Southeast Michigan Health and Hospital Council, and was past president of the Hospital Emergency Management Systems in Wayne, Michigan.

“I look forward to joining the St. Joe’s family and becoming part of the LC Valley community,” said Freysinger. “I am excited to work with physicians, employees, hospital leaders, volunteers and community members in the pursuit of Making Communities Healthier and advancing care across the region.”

Freysinger will be relocating to the LC Valley with his wife, Debbie, a certified nurse anesthetist.  They have two grown daughters, both are nurses.
