LifePoint sees payoff from CMS partnership

The buzzword coming out of every hospital C-suite these days is “quality,” but it can be difficult to determine whether large corporate quality initiatives actually translate to better patient care.
Brentwood-based LifePoint Health, however, has hit benchmarks suggesting that it’s making significant progress on patient safety and quality initiatives.
LifePoint is now getting back early data showing the results of a partnership with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In 2011, CMS awarded $218 million across 26 health systems that would serve as “Hospital Engagement Networks,” or HENs. Those networks would share information and spend the award money from CMS to hit 40 percent improvement in eight certain quality metrics by the end of 2014.
