Providence Health Celebrates Completion of New Emergency Room in Fairfield County

Winnsboro, S.C. (December 14, 2018) – Providence Health hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration and open house yesterday in advance of the grand opening of its new facility in Fairfield County, called the Providence Health-Fairfield Emergency Room. Representatives from the hospital and LifePoint Health, of which Providence Health is a part, joined community leaders, elected officials, health care providers and other supporters to ceremoniously cut the ribbon on the new facility. The Providence Health-Fairfield Emergency Room will open its doors to the public on December 18.

“Today is a momentous day for Providence Health and the Fairfield County community,” said Lindy White, chief executive officer (CEO) of Providence Health-Northeast. “We are just days away from opening the doors of this beautiful new facility, which will serve patients during their times of greatest need and keep them close to home. This project represents Providence’s commitment to ensuring continued access to high quality care for the people of this region and is just one more way we are advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier by Extending Christ’s Healing Ministry.”

Members of the community got their first look inside the new facility today. The structure initially dedicates 12,000-square-feet to emergency services, featuring six exam rooms (including four treatment rooms and two for future expansion), two trauma rooms, an onsite laboratory, and imaging services such as computerized tomography (CT) scan, ultrasound and x-ray. An additional 6,000 square feet are available for future expansion of services, as needs in the community are identified.

“LifePoint is proud to invest in the health and vitality of this region by ensuring that comprehensive emergency medical care is available and easily within reach for all community members,” said Jamie Carter, Eastern Division president of LifePoint Health. “We are excited about the enormous impact Providence Health-Fairfield will have on countless lives right here in Fairfield County for a long time to come.”

Funded by a nearly $12 million investment by LifePoint Health, the Providence Health–Fairfield Emergency Room was designed by HMK Architects PLLC and constructed by HOOD Construction Company, Inc. The project was also made possible in part by South Carolina’s Hospital Transformation Program, which supports rural access to healthcare resources and contributed nearly $4 million to the project. In addition, Fairfield County pledged financial support for the facility spread out over the next 10 years.

“This Emergency Room is a shining example of what can occur when multiple organizations work together to do what’s right for the community,” said White. “It is a blessing and an honor to serve such a welcoming part of the country.”

The project was initiated in 2016, following the announcement of the closure of services at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, which will coincide with the first day of services at the Providence Health–Fairfield Emergency Room. This collaboration between Providence Health and Fairfield Memorial Hospital on their open/closing timelines was important to both entities, since each wanted to ensure a continuity of care for the community.

Located at 1810 US Hwy 321 S, Winnsboro, SC 29180, the Providence Health–Fairfield Emergency Room is approximately 20 miles away from the Providence Health-Northeast hospital campus, where patients needing more intensive care can be quickly transported. Providence Health’s downtown Columbia hospital, in the same system, will also provide streamlined access for higher acuity patients with more complex cases.
