LifePoint Health Honors David Asherbraner with 2018 Companywide Mercy Award

Brentwood, Tennessee (September 24, 2018) – LifePoint Health has named David Asherbraner from Frye Regional Medical Center the recipient of the 2018 companywide Mercy Award. Asherbraner, who serves as manager of asset management and transport, was recognized for his exemplary dedication to caring for others and for inspiring his fellow employees to join him in his humanitarian efforts. LifePoint is a leading healthcare company dedicated to Making Communities Healthier® and jointly owns and operates Frye Regional through its joint venture with Duke University Health System, Duke LifePoint Healthcare.

The companywide Mercy Award is given annually to one of more than 43,000 LifePoint employees who has profoundly touched the lives of others and embodies the spirit and values upon which the Company was founded. It was established in 2001 to honor the life and legacy of the late Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), and is the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“David is a wonderful example of what it means to be selfless, compassionate and service-minded, and we are thrilled to recognize him with the 2018 companywide Mercy Award,” said William F. Carpenter III, chairman and CEO of LifePoint Health. “This momentous recognition embodies the heart of our organization and honors those whose stories inspire us as we pursue our mission of Making Communities Healthier – both within our facilities and beyond the walls of our hospitals.”

A 20-year employee of Frye Regional Medical Center, Asherbraner has earned a reputation for going above and beyond to meet the needs of individuals at the hospital and in his community. For nearly two decades, he has volunteered at the Hickory Soup Kitchen, where he serves lunch, plans and manages events to raise operating funds and often buys and delivers pizzas to the homeless when the soup kitchen is closed – knowing these individuals may not otherwise have a proper meal. David inspires those around him with his selfless acts of kindness and constant readiness to serve others.

“Helping others is simply part of David’s DNA,” said Gar Atchison, CEO of Frye Regional Medical Center. “Whether it’s a fellow employee or a member of our community, his first response to someone in need is, ‘How can I help?’, and then he takes action. He inspires all of us as we carry out our mission here at Frye and in the Hickory community, and we are all proud he is being recognized with this prestigious award.”

Asherbraner was formally honored with the 2018 companywide Mercy Award at a ceremony held in Nashville, Tenn., on August 29.
