Nestled in the foothills of the Wind River Mountains on the banks of the Popo Agie River, Lander is home to the best in small-town living, stunning scenery and abundant outdoor recreation.
SageWest Health Care – Lander is an 89-bed acute care hospital providing inpatient and outpatient services for residents of Lander and the surrounding area. It is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and features a full-time Level IV Emergency Room, a Level II Nursery, a behavioral health program and a comprehensive inpatient rehab unit among its many offerings. It was the first hospital in the state of Wyoming to be approved as a provider under the Wyoming Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.
At the heart of Lander lies its Historic Downtown District, with numerous art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants and cafés. The city’s Eagle Bronze Foundry casts and produces many of the world’s largest bronze statues and monuments. Its public education system is strong, and Central Wyoming College in nearby Riverton has a Lander Extension Office offering local classes. A greenway that runs alongside the scenic Popo Agie River is popular with walkers.
The area holds numerous opportunities for recreational pursuits, including world-class rock climbing, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding and camping. The Wind River Mountains contain more than 735,000 acres of continuous wilderness, more than 40 peaks that top 13,000 feet and more than 150 glaciers. Winter brings cross-country skiing on six miles of groomed trails in the South Pass area and 70 miles of groomed snowmobiling trails in the Lander/Sinks Canyon area. The city is also the site of the southern-most trailhead to the Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail, which you can ride all the way to Yellowstone National Park.
